10 Rock Music Albums That Were Way Ahead Of Their Time
6. McCartney - Paul McCartney
He might be seen as a bit of crazy grandpa these days, but there was a time where Paul McCartney was the coolest guy on the whole planet.
1970 was a rough year for Macca. The break up of The Beatles and the subsequent legal action that followed must have given him a serious headache, so he locked himself away and threw himself into music as a distraction.
The end result was McCartney, the first of his many solo records. At the time, critics complained that it sounded unfinished and like it was recorded in someone's house.
Well, that's because it was.
Parts of McCartney were laid down in Paul's own home, effectively making this one of the first high-profile bedroom-produced albums. This was in 1970; how popular is that technique now?
Listeners used to the high-end, ultra-polished sound of The Beatles were rightfully confused by this new lo-fi effort, but McCartney had unknowingly set the stage for the low budget music-making revolution that was still many decades away.
Also, the guy played every single instrument on this album by himself!
Cut him some slack, will you?
