10 Rock Music Albums That Were Way Ahead Of Their Time
5. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
If you were a British teenager in the mid-90s, then you likely would have been caught up in the whirlwind of Britpop.
This ultra-British, ultra-working class style of indie rock was everywhere at the time. Bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, and Suede were the biggest stars in the entire country, as thousands of teenagers across the land annoyed the hell out their parents trying to replicate their success.
Another name often clumped in with the aforementioned is The Stone Roses. There are two reasons why this is strange.
One is that the band only put out two albums; a minuscule discography compared to their contemporaries. The other is that their first album came out in the 1980s.
On May 2nd 1989, this excellent collection of songs hit shelves and... well, nobody really cared. The music scene wasn't ready for a bunch of lads from Manchester wailing over droning guitars. It wasn't until its re-release two years later that people finally started to take notice.
The Stone Roses was Britpop before Britpop was Britpop. It predated everything else by several years and, in all honesty, holds up better than a lot of what followed it.
