10 Rock Music Collaborations No One Could Have Predicted
3. Volbeat & Barney Greenway
The lads in Birmingham-based grindcore legends Napalm Death like to keep themselves busy. Between the four members of the band, they involved in some of extreme metal's biggest names, such as Brujeria, Absolute Power, Venomous Concept, Anaal Nathrakh, Menace, Extreme Noise Terror, Lock Up, and many more. Perhaps then the place you'd least expect them to pop-up is with Danish metal band Volbeat.
But low and behold, that is exactly what happened and lead singer Barney Greenway joined the Misfit-cum-Metallica outfit for the groove metal-inspired sonnet "Evelyn" on Volbeat's 2010 hit Beyond Hell/Above Heaven.
Coming at arguably the peak of their popularity, Michael Poulsen and co. made a very brave attempt at trying to bring together the worlds of contemporary metal and extreme metal and are one of the more successful groups to do so. The collaboration received high praise upon release and was regularly played in tours proceeding, including an appearance at 2012's edition of Germany's Wacken Open Air festival where Barney joined Volbeat for the performance.
Who do we talk to about getting Shane Embury on the new Foo Fighters album?
