10 Rock Music Songs That You Didn't Know Were About Drugs
3. Got To Get You Into My Life - The Beatles
For most Beatles nerds, there is a noticeable change between both halves of their career. As much as the moptop era of the band was fun and started the concept of Beatlemania, the back half of their tenure showed them expanding the possibilities of the studio and churning out some of the best music ever made. And if you want the number one factor as to why they changed, it all started with their introduction to pot.
Aside from their many different experiments with acid back in the day, Paul McCartney was always known to be the primary cannabis smoker in the group, and went so far as to put it in a song. Though you can clearly tell that acid fueled songs on Sgt. Peppers, you would never have guessed that Got to Get You Into My Life is about drugs at all, just seeming like your typical pop song with a ripping horn part.
As Paul told it later on though, this was just inspired by his love of smoking weed, just like someone would write an ode to chocolate or wine. That love would have had to be strong though, considering how much power that Paul puts into his vocals on the chorus. There's definitely a soul element to this song, but the spiritual stuff feels more like a gift from Jah than it is from God.
