10 Rock Songs NOT Sung By The Lead Singer

6. Thought I Knew - Weezer

In the mid '00s, Weezer had hit a bit of a slump in their career trajectory. Though their output post Pinkerton had been fine up to that point, their 2005 album Make Believe saw them earning big chart hits and revulsion from the fans who preferred their classic sound. For their next project, the guys were beginning to get experimental. It was time to pass the mic around.

While the band's eponymous Red album has some great tracks led by Rivers Cuomo like "Pork and Beans," the album really shines when every other band member takes the reigns for a tune. Even though Scott Shriner does an exquisite job on the song "Cold Dark World," guitarist Brian Bell created a pop rock diamond with "Thought I Knew."

Originally used for Bell's side band the Relationship, Cuomo loved the track and had the band rework it for this record, where it takes on a whole different tone.

Given the lyrics about leaving a relationship behind, the major key riff makes it sound confident and sassy rather than downtrodden. The Red Album tends to be a mixed bag when taken as a whole, but this song sounds like its been ripped straight out of the band's glory years in the '90s.
