10 Rock Songs That Don't Sound Like The Artists Who Made Them
2. Sing This All Together (See What Happens) - The Rolling Stones
Somehow, the drugs and booze and cigarettes have kept Mick Jagger and co. going for six decades, and with a new album out this year they're not even close to calling it a day. While some segments of the Rolling Stones' career have been patchy to say the least, the band have generally come out on top.
Even when impersonating The Beatles on their psychedelic-influenced 1967 album Their Satanic Majesties Request, the Stones still managed to turn out a few decent pieces and inject their firebrand persona into most of the tracks. That is with the exception of Sing This All Together (See What Happens), a disjointed instrumental that could easily have been off one of Lou Reed's noise albums, rather than anything by the blues rock legends.
Harking back to certain sections of the album opener (and similarly titled) Sing This All Together, the eight-minute conclusion to what would have been the album's A-side leaves listeners at a bit of a loss. Poorly improvised and desperately pointless, the song adds nothing to proceedings and only goes to show why The Beatles trounce their South-Eastern contemporaries any day of the week. They didn't put out anything like this again, and we should be eternally grateful for that.
