10 Rock Songs That Were A Nightmare To Make

1. The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles

From every camp that you hear from, the recording sessions for the Beatles' Let It Be never sounded like they were any fun at all. While never meant to be the Fabs' final album, Paul McCartney's vision for getting the band back to their original roots was shelved to work on Abbey Road before eventually coming out as an album obligation. Though most of the record has a lot of table scraps for fans, if there was one song that deserved a better fate, it was the Long and Winding Road.

Being one of the few ballads of the record, this is one of McCartney's last masterstrokes in the group, which was put through the musical meat grinder against his wishes. After coming to a version that he was happy with, Phil Spector was handed the tapes to make a record, where he gave the track the orchestral backing that everyone knows today. For a track that was supposed to be understated, this infuriated Paul to no end, eventually leading to him writing a note to the Abbey Road offices insisting that they would never do it again.

It seems that Paul has had his way though, with Let It Be...Naked eventually coming out with the song in the form that Paul intended it to have. Still, if the worst thing that's going on with your song is that it sounds too produced, you're still doing a pretty decent job.
