10 Rock Stars Who Didn't Like Their Most Famous Songs
6. Slash- Sweet Child O Mine
Across the album Appetite for Destruction, Guns N Roses rewrote the rule book on how LA rockers were supposed to look. Quickly ditching the glam rock tendencies of their peers, the band put out a record with a rock and roll swagger that has only gotten better with age.
One of the album's great highlights comes with "Sweet Child O Mine," where Axl Rose abandons his badass persona to pour out his feelings for his love Erin Everly. While the instrumentation has a gorgeous shimmer, guitarist Slash still struggles to grasp what people see in this ballad. The guitarist's classic opening riff has been burnt into the minds of hard rock fans for years, but Slash envisioned the riff as somewhat of a joke. As the band rehearsed, Slash had played the little melody to emulate circus music before it fell into place as the guitar part we know and love today.
Even with Slash's hesitance, the band quickly jumped on the new opportunity and wrote one of the greatest hard rock songs of the 80's. With the song still getting airplay around the world and being played countless times in concert, Slash will probably have to live with his maligned melody for years to come.
