10 Sellout Albums That Don't Suck

9. X - Def Leppard

There are only a handful of bands from the days of hair metal that you can credibly say survived the '90s. After grunge really came in and hit the music scene, it was basically curtains for the likes of Cinderella and Warrant still populating the charts at the time. While Bon Jovi managed to hang in there alright and Guns N Roses plotted their own destruction, the same couldn't be said for Def Leppard.

Even though Leppard had gotten on good terms with their fans after their late '90s album Euphoria, X was a different beast that saw them going much more pop than they ever had before. Without the help of Mutt Lange guiding them along, this album was the most radio ready to date, which actually was a lot better a fit than you might have expected.

Aside from the occasional dated production, songs like Long Long Way to Go and Scar are fine little slices of pop rock that could have held their own were it not for the fact that everyone washed their hands of hairspray-ed rock. And let's face it...if Leppard truly wanted to be trendy, they would have probably made a nu metal album as their bounceback. We should consider ourselves lucky that we at least got this.
