10 Singers Who HATE Their Own Songs
1. Robert Plant - Stairway To Heaven
Stairway to Heaven is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rock songs of all time, but it's been so requested and overplayed for nearly 50 years (despite never even releasing as a single) that people have inevitably gotten sick of it, none more so than Robert Plant.
The Led Zeppelin frontman has stated in many interviews that he's sick of the song, and that he’d "break out in hives" if he had to sing that song at every single show Led Zeppelin did.
He also said that that when he wrote the lyrics in 1971, the song was important to him, but 17 years later in 1988, it just wasn't for him anymore.
After the band broke up in 1980 following drummer John Bonham's death, the remaining members rarely did reunions partly because of Plant's refusal to sing the song, which put a strain on his relationship with them.
One time, Plant was in Oregon and came across the radio station KBOO in Portland, which said that if they were donated enough money, they would never play Stairway to Heaven. Plant subsequently called the station and made a pledge of $10,000. He later said he donated the money not because he didn't like the song, he'd just heard it before.
