10 Songs By The 1975 You've Been Sleeping On

5. Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You?

For every cheery sounding anthem The 1975 gift to the world, there's an emotionally charged ballad that can really make even the most content humans question their existence and none more so than the band's debut studio album closer: Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You?

The story behind the song is almost as heartbreaking as listening to it given the sentimentality behind it. Opening with the line 'I preferred it before', Matty is referring to his parents selling the family home he grew up in and departing on tour never to go back to what he considered home.

Truthfully, it's a very relatable situation as parents often downsize once their progeny fly the nest but it seems as though Matty is truly hurt by the notion that his family will never be 'at home' again. He even directly addresses his brother in saying they should 'ring Dad more' which gives an unusually open view into someone else's life.

When you consider the rest of the self titled album covers such blasé topics: Girls, Money, Sex etc; this closing ballad is an exceptional piece of music that should never be skipped.
