10 Songs That Sound Better Live Than On Record

4. Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1Hb9ABpyts Sometimes, it doesn't take a great deal of difference to make the regular live performance of a song infinitely better than the recorded version. Rock and Roll had always been a popular part of Led Zep's live shows, originally being performed as part of a medley within Whole Lotta Love. By the time of 'The Song Remains The Same' in the early 70's, it had become one of their most popular live songs, and possibly their best. Years of abusing his vocal chords had deepened Robert Plant's voice, and his vocal range had changed as a result. This led Plant to lowering the pitch of the vocals in Rock and Roll, and it can be argued that the song sounds so much better as a result-certainly' it's years since I listened to the version on IV, while the live version nestles amongst the most played tracks on my IPod. A band doesn't always need to drag out the bells and whistles for a live performance to change a song, or strip it back to Doug performing the entire song on the spoons. Sometimes, a minor change will suffice.

I am a freelance writer, currently residing in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. I was raised by wolves in the woodlands of Northumberland, but am still posher than Colin Firth having dinner with The Queen. I write all of my pieces by swallowing a cocktail of scrabble tiles and vodka, then regurgitating them over my jotter. Hope this explains the typos.
