10 Songs That Actually Got Better Live
6. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
"Born to Run" has been an outsider's anthem ever since the day it was released. After years of slogging it out on the New Jersey club scene with the E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen finally had a bonafied hit record who's power still can't be denied after decades of listening. The entire track is a feat unto itself, but you haven't heard it properly until you've seen a live cut of it.
Although Springsteen has pretty much kept this in the setlist throughout his career, the difference between the studio and live versions is what he's able to do with his E Street Band. Never one to mince words onstage, Springsteen is able to be much more open with his audience than most people in rock and roll, but the closeness he has with his band when throwing this tune together is amazing.
Even when the song divulges into near chaos towards the end of the bridge, the way Springsteen counts off his band to come back in for one more runthrough never fails to send chills up your spine. All good rock and roll anthems are supposed to make you feel good, but after you catch a glimpse of Springsteen's power, you'll feel like you're able to take on anything the world throws at you.
