10 Songs That Actually Got Better Live

4. Creeping Death - Metallica

At this point, almost all of Metallica's songs have achieved stadium status. No matter which record you pick up from the band's '80s output, almost every song can be played at the top of a stadium with thousands of impassioned fans banging their heads off. Songs like "One" and "Master of Puppets" have already taken on a life beyond metal, but "Creeping Death" is one of the greatest fan interactions the genre has to offer.

Granted, most of the song is an above average tune to begin with, as James Hetfield maniacally recounts the many plagues of the Bible, but the real heaviness comes in when Kirk Hammett finishes his solo. It's been a pretty heavy affair up until this point, but the breakdown riff turns the entire crowd into a single entity, throwing up the horns and fists in the air as Hetfield plays the role of death coming to kill the first born man.

Though the story may be the centerpiece of the song, the main attraction at this point of the show is hearing thousands of screaming fans at the top of their lungs yelling "Die," as if they're being possessed by some sort of spiritual being the band has created through their music. "Enter Sandman" may be the most identifiable Metallica song, but when it comes to pummeling metal glory, "Creeping Death" may be the ultimate Metallica tune.
