10 Songs That Are Darker Than You Realize
1. Wherever You Will Go - The Calling
Most of the remnants of radio rock in the '00s seemed to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. From Creed trying (and failing) to hold onto their self respect with Scott Stapp to Nickelback reaching new levels of self plagiarism, the next mainstream rock coming down the pipeline was getting a lot dumber by the minute. Which brings us to the Calling, whose song Wherever You Will Go is probably the cheapest excuse for a love song of the '00s...or is it?
Given the first opening notes, that would be the assumption of what this song is about, with Alex Band talking about following his love wherever they will go. After doing some digging though, Band actually wrote this song as a tribute to a relative who had passed away around the same time. Though not exactly a Romeo and Juliet scenario, this song is way too forward in its devotion, as Band promises to follow you even if it means you went to Hell after departing from this Earth.
Considering the pedigree that we have at work here though, this is probably just a case of accidental darkness rather than something that was intentional of their part. You may think you're in a committed relationship, but willing to lay down your life and self preservation to be with your significant other...that's real devotion.
