10 Songs That Are Darker Than You Realize

2. Having a Blast - Green Day

There never seemed to be too much thought put into the first few records Green Day put out. Though the actual melodic structure of the tunes were amazing for what they were, topics like masturbation on Longview or the comedic flirtation with S&M on Dominated Love Slave weren't exactly the most mind expanding of topics to cover for a rock band. That was just the angst talking though....wait until you hear when they get angry.

Just after kicking down the door with the opening track Burnout, Dookie gets the ball rolling with Having a Blast, who's title is a lot more literal than anyone would be willing to admit. While many kids might expect this to just be a song about having fun, Billie Joe Armstrong takes on a much more pessimistic tone through the verses, until he talks about taking out all of his friends in one go in the chorus.

No...the blast in this scenario is a bomb, and the singer is on a suicide mission to take out everyone who has ever wronged him in the past. Seeing how this took place years before the school shooting at Columbine, this whole song was initially meant to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. If you play it a little too close to the chest though, things can get ugly really fast.
