10 Songs That Broke Up Bands

1. Sympathy for the Devil - Guns N Roses

For most of the '90s, Guns N Roses were a hot mess to watch. While the band did pull off an epic one-two punch with the Use Your Illusion records, the accompanying tour was every hard rocker's worst nightmare, with Axl Rose becoming one of the most insufferable divas the world had ever seen. Anyone would need a break after something like that, but Rose wanted to get right back to business once the band left the road.

While the band knocked out a quick and dirty covers album with The Spaghetti Incident?, the one cover left off the album was the straw that broke the camel's back. Coming together for a version of the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" to include on the soundtrack to Interview with the Vampire, the band was practically at each other's throats, with no one giving it their all.

Though the instrumentation is still above average by hard rock standards, the band would not release any new music with the original lineup after this, with Duff McKagan and Slash falling by the wayside shortly after this was recorded. This track did find its way onto a few greatest hits records in recent years, but Slash himself has categorized this one song as "the sound of the band breaking up."
