10 Songs That Emotionally DESTROYED Artists
2. Songbird - Fleetwood Mac
It’s a miracle that Rumours by Fleetwood Mac became an all time classic record. Even though the songs may have been fantastic, the band was being held together by a thread, with every single member breaking up in their personal lives. While there are definitely some petty songs across the track list, Songbird may be the one song that actually said what was on everyone’s mind.
Written by Christine McVie to her husband John, this simple ballad is a way for Christine to deal with the divorce, saying that she doesn’t want to cry for him and trying her best to move on every single day. While you can tell that there are some pent up emotions on this song, the tone is not angry. By the end of the song, Christine goes for the throat, wishing John all the love in the world but hoping that she can at least be happy when she eventually moves on.
Even though Christine wrote the song, the real effect came from the rest of the band, who would bawl their eyes out every single night of the tour when she played that song. Most songs might like to reel you in with their story, but Songbird feels like it just gripped a raw nerve.
