10 Songs That End On Cliffhangers
3. Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan
Aside from his revolutionary folk rock period in the 60's, Bob Dylan's divorce album Blood on the Tracks is heralded as one of his other career highlights. Most of the lyrics deal with his separation from his wife Sara, with "Tangled Up in Blue" acting as a mission statement at the record's start.
Clocking in at just under 6 minutes, the song feels like a journey through a countryside, as we hear of our traveler's old flame coming in and out of his life. While it starts off with good intentions, the couple quickly fall out of love, each of them going their separate ways to make sense of their lives. Our hero's travels take him through different escapades, from working as a cook to stopping into a strip club to eventually winding up in a Bohemian style town where revolutionaries congregate.
Even though he does everything he can to separate himself, he finds out the puzzle piece that was missing from his life was the girl he left behind. He realizes that although both of them had the same ideals, their execution of said ideals were not aligned at the right time. We are left with our hero travelling back to find his long forgotten soulmate. For all we know, he may still be looking to this very day.
