10 Songs That End On Really Depressing Notes

1. Hurt - Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash is one of the most famous singers throughout the history of music. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that didn't know his name, and he had an incredible, long career, before his death in 2003. While Hurt came back to the mainstream audience when it was used in the trailer for Logan in 2015, it had been a classic long before then.

Though the legendary singer's take on the Nine Inch Nails song was utterly different than the original, it was able to, not only keep the same themes running through, but make it even more personal to Cash himself.

The song tells of reminiscence of the glory days of the past, and the harsh reality of regret as an old man. The song itself is certainly emotional, but along side it the video adds a completely new layer to the song. Filmed just months before Cash's death, his frailty is devastatingly apparent.

There is no way to listen to this song and watch the video without shedding a tear, seeing an aged man in the winter of his years relive the what he once was, and reflect on what he is now. The end of the song not only represents the end of his illustrious career, it signifies the end of his life.
