10 Songs That Got Stuff Completely Wrong
4. Black Skinhead - Kanye West
For anyone looking to come back from making their greatest achievement, Kanye West's Black Skinhead is as good a comeback song as any. From the vicious beat on the backing track to the way that Kanye goes bar for bar across every second, you can tell that he's ready to go to war as soon as it starts. Then again, if you're actually going to war, it pays to actually be familiar with the armies of the past.
During the midpoint of the verse, Kanye goes on an offbeat flow that shows him talking about keeping it 300, like the Romans. While this kind of simile-laden rap style is by no means original, it's also clear that Ye definitely needs to brush up on his history, thanks to the fact that the 300 he's alluding to in the lyrics were actually the Spartans.
Granted, not every artist is meant to be caught up on these kinds of history things, and Kanye himself has always used words more for their lyrical flow than anything. Then again, the fact that the actual 300 movie came out just a few years before this makes the line all the more inexcusable. Despite making some lines that are meant to be cringy, this tricks you into thinking it's deep and then leaves you with a failed answer on a World Civilization exam.
