10 Songs That Got Stuff Completely Wrong

3. King of Rock - Run-DMC

At the start of the '80s, rap was still just learning what it wanted to be. Though people like Grandmaster Flash already had a clear idea of what the rhythmic flow of words should be on songs like the Message, Run-DMC were the real OGs of everything, bringing the sounds of the streets to the suburbs everywhere. As much as the beats were hard as hell, these Kings of Rock were still fallible every now and again.

From a raw execution standpoint, King of Rock is damn near flawless, flipping the traditional rock and roll style riff and putting the hard energy of hip hop into it. Without question, this is the kind of song that could get rock fans into the hip hop genre...as long as they don't mind a little bit of factual inaccuracy here and there.

When trading bars left and right, Run and DMC start to compare themselves to different figures in the rock star pantheon, going so far as to call themselves "three, but not the Beatles." It's nice to know that they don't want to put themselves up on that high a pedestal, especially considering the Beatles themselves are made up of four men...not three. Then again, when you're born and raised on the sweet sounds of hip hop, something from the Fab Four is probably not the first thing that crosses your mind every day.
