10 Songs That Got Stuff Completely Wrong

In the era of the flannel shirt, having a song called Ironic was bound to sell like hotcakes no matter who was singing it. Though Alanis Morissette already had enough experience in her work to make 20 different amazing songs at this point, the idea of distilling the classic emotion down to one single track was an almost fullproof plan. That is, if you managed to avoid one of the most famous errors in pop song history.

Throughout the duration of this tune, Alanis starts to describe different situations while intoning "isn't it ironic" to put everything together. The only issue is...what she's describing isn't actually considered ironic by the basic definition of the word. While some of the situations that she describes can be ironic in their own way, stuff like having rain on your wedding day seem to fall into the category of mild inconveniences rather than something ironic.

Granted, it's not like Alanis isn't selling this concept though, displaying her whiny range in full force with one of the greatest melodies of the disaffected generation. Then again, when you have something this basic tying everything together, it's not necessarily hard to pull one over on people like this. Even with the next generation being in the know about how stupid this is, it still reeks of a song that most 40 somethings still think is one of the deepest things ever.
