10 Songs That Got Stuff Completely Wrong

2. Don't Stop Believin - Journey

Ever since its release, Don't Stop Believin has remained one of the most immortal power ballads of the modern age. No matter if you hated Journey from the first second you heard them, there's a good chance that most people can at least sing a few bars of this song without really thinking too hard. Then again, when you have something that universal, you're really slipping on the specifics here.

For the first verse, things seem to be smooth sailing with the tale of a small town girl who took a midnight train going anywhere. Clearly this is going to be a song for the disenfranchised, until we get the tale of our main protagonist who hails from South Detroit. This must be a pretty desolate neighborhood though, considering that South Detroit does not exist anywhere on the map.

If you even took a schematic of the city of Detroit, the southern side just bleeds into the rest of Michigan and the Great Lakes. While you might call this one poetic justice for just how alone this kid feels, the choice to say 'born and raised' just adds to your case that you just didn't do your geography homework properly. For as much as this midnight train might be going anywhere, here's hoping it's going someplace worthwhile and actually on the map.
