10 Songs That Got To Number One By Two Different Artists

6. The Sound Of Silence - Simon And Garfunkel And Disturbed

Whenever you're looking for cover songs, you can rarely go wrong with folk tunes. Since all you have to go on is a voice and acoustic guitar most of the time, you can bend and shift the song into any form that you want when you decide to tackle it. Even when you want to go aggro as hell, Disturbed actually managed to make it work on the Sound of Silence.

For rock enthusiasts, nothing could possibly touch the original, with the radical social commentary from Paul Simon still striking a nerve all the way in 2021. David Draiman did have a good way of approaching this as a metal vocalist though, starting slow and brooding before building to one of the most glorious climaxes in recent memory. The beginning and ending of this track alone sounds like it's taken from two different songs, going from Draiman's croon to shouting in anger at the words of the prophets being written on subway walls.

It's not like Draiman didn't have practice before this, with covers of everyone from Genesis to U2 being a part of Disturbed's repertoire for a long time. They could have easily added their nu metal touch, but this is the result of knowing the genius you're working with and putting in the extra work to make something classic.
