10 Songs That Got To Number One By Two Different Artists
5. Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson And Alien Ant Farm
Michael Jackson probably wasn't even looking for a song like Smooth Criminal to be a hit on the charts. Sure, it had a great groove and was even given the full music video treatment, but there was no way that a song about a violent stalker calling out for Annie was going to become one of his biggest songs to date. As it turns out though, the public does have a pretty decent tolerance for the darker side of pop music.
Aside from Jackson building off of the success of Bad, Smooth Criminal got a whole new resurrection when it was adopted by nu metal band Alien Ant Farm in the early '00s. Keep in mind, this was the '00s, where the last person that you wanted to be compared to in the music industry was Michael Jackson. Still, AAF's version is a damn good time regardless of how aggro it is, riding the same funky groove and putting it to a detuned electric guitar.
For as far away as these styles are from each other, this is the kind of song that could please both sides of the aisle. The MJ fans will like this song for the smooth funk, and the nu metal bros can appreciate the undeniable riff that runs throughout the track. Even though getting a song on the chart for a second time is a hard sell, it can always work when you have that one great idea.
