10 Surprisingly Heavy Songs By Non-Metal Bands
1. People – The 1975
The day before The 1975 headlined Reading Festival in 2019, they dropped a monster-single unlike anything from their previous albums.
Though hardcore fans may be more familiar with the band’s early, more aggressive sound from their teen years, most are not aware they can be this aggressive. The bulk of the band’s material – though quite experimental – is closer to pop than rock.
The guitar distortion throughout ‘People’ crunches through the mix with simple yet effective riffs during both the verses and the chorus. But what makes this track truly heavy is the vocals from frontman Matty Healy. Throughout the song’s two-and-a-half-minute runtime he delivers a rebellious tirade and spends more time shouting than singing.
As great as the original recording is, ‘People’ is best experienced in a live setting. Put simply, this angst-ridden tune was made for large crowds.
