10 Surprisingly Heavy Songs By Non-Metal Bands
8. Our Lady Of Sorrows – My Chemical Romance
Long before the days of The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance had a much darker, more chaotic style. Such a sound is prevalent on the band’s sophomore album – Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge – but it’s their debut that carries the most aggression.
‘Our Lady of Sorrows’ is short and sharp. The opening riff wouldn’t feel out of place on a Slayer record, and the vocals from Gerard Way are chaotic, to say the least. His clean voice often morphs into a scream which gives the track a sense of instability.
Though the opening lick is the obvious standout, ‘Our Lady of Sorrows’ is built on a series of riffs. Indeed, the song doesn’t really have a structure. It’s essentially two minutes of chaos that’s much crazier than the bulk of the band’s other material.
