10 Terrible Rock Albums (That Aren't As Bad As You Think)

4. A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park

Linkin Park's rise to fame was nothing short of miraculous in the early '00s. At a time when nu metal was becoming far too glossy, these tattooed kids out of California took over the charts with songs that felt like they were laced with legitimate pain. While the band had one hell of a start, their output after Meteora tends to be a mixed bag among rock fans.

Though the band have toyed with their sound on almost every subsequent release, A Thousand Suns was one of the first albums where fans were thrown a curveball. Instead of being a record filled with headbangers, this was a subdued and clinically clean record, detailing the effects that come after a nuclear war.

Many fans were not onboard with this weird detour, but the material on here is still pretty great, all things considered. Though the album does suffer from a few too many interlude tracks, the proper songs on here are still amazing, from the buildup in "Waiting for the End" to the call to arms on "The Catalyst."

Looking at the state of rock nowadays, this album doesn't get nearly enough credit for kickstarting the rocktronica movement in the mainstream, which could be both a positive or a negative depending on how you look at it.

A Thousand Suns might not be the best Linkin Park album ever made, but it's certainly underrated by diehards.
