10 Terrible Rock Songs By Legendary Rock Bands
9. Nightlife - Green Day
When Green Day reached the end of the '00s, they seemed like one of the few pop punk acts who grew up and didn't embarrass themselves. After being the kings of the movement all the way back on Dookie, we had the one two punch of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, which set them up as legitimate rock gods compared to the newer acts like Sum 41. Everything seemed to be looking up, but the 2010's saw them hit a colossal brick wall on their trilogy of albums.
Though you could throw a dart at almost anything on these records as being not up to the band's usual standards, we were still on firm ground until we got to Nightlife off of Dos. Being more inspired by the dirty club scene of California, this feels like the exact opposite of what made Green Day fun in the first place, with Billie Joe Armstrong sounding like he's asleep at the wheel before a guest verse from Lady Cobra dominates the rest of the track.
Green Day have had their share of danceable tracks, but this is the kind of music that would get you laughed out of the room at any legitimate club. Considering this was also the time when Billie was getting strung out on painkillers, you can't help but listen to a track like this and feel a little bit sad for the guy.
