10 Terrible Rock Songs By Legendary Rock Bands

8. Breadline - Megadeth

Part of the mission that Dave Mustaine had when forming Megadeth was to leave his former band Metallica in the dust. While he's certainly carved out his name in metal history, you can still hear that anger in Dave's music about being snubbed out of one of the most celebrated bands in metal history. It might not be the worst idea to use Metallica as your model for a metal band, but you shouldn't pay attention to their less celebrated moments either.

Right before Metallica released their baffling ugly album St. Anger, Mustaine was already trying to reinvent his own band on Risk, which turned into one of the most questionable releases ever to be associated with a thrash band. Although every track on here feels a bit off in places, Breadline really says it all for the record, almost sounding like the antithesis of the angry metal music that Dave had prided himself on.

Since Dave's voice is mainly suited for snarling in most of his songs, hearing him trade that in for a by the numbers pop friendly song is like watching the band intentionally lean into their weaknesses. While the late '90s were pretty cruel to metal giants, you can't even call this metal anymore. This is the kind of thing that would be part of a '90s daytime sitcom at best.
