10 Terrible Rock Songs By Legendary Rock Bands

7. Wild Nights Hot and Crazy Days - Judas Priest

If we're looking to break down the foundation of heavy metal music, Judas Priest really should be considered ground zero. Though Black Sabbath may have written the unholy bible of what constituted heaviness in rock, Priest were the scribes that turned the entire scene into a new movement, with the denim and leather uniform to match. But that's where their strengths always were....metal, not power pop.

Since Priest had been in the game for decades at this point, the album Turbo feels a lot more neutered, almost sounding like the band wanted to hop on the train of hair metal by turning in some more hooky choruses. There is definitely some AOR flavored rock and roll to go around, but the album really hits its cheesy stride on Wild Nights, which feels like something that's way too chipper to have a band associated with heavy music attached to it.

When you break down the chorus, this feels like metal gods trying to do what they think pop music is and failing miserably. Even in the golden era of power pop, the titans like Cheap Trick or the Cars would pack much more of a punch into songs like this. As it stands though, the metal overlords that we know and love suddenly decided to switch things up and fell flat on their face. They may still be in the leather gear they were known for, but this is the template for what dad rock became.
