10 Terrible Songs By Great Artists
5. Georgie Porgie - A Tribe Called Quest
In a rap industry that seemed to be all about the dangerous side of the spectrum, you couldn't get much more chilled than a Tribe Called Quest. Considering the other rappers emerging at the time like NWA and Public Enemy, the rhymes coming from Phife Dawg and Q Tip on the Low End Theory just put you in a nice vibe whenever you threw it on. If it were an alternate reality though, we could have gotten one of the most problematic hip hop songs of all time on here with Georgie Porgie.
Then again, it's not like the meat of the song has anything inherently wrong with it, being nothing more than the same type of backing track that they used on other songs on the record. No, the crime in this case comes down to the lyrics...and it's a big one. Rather than talk about the fun times they can have, Tribe takes this opportunity to deliver line far more homophobic than many would care to listen to.
As much as something like this may have seemed juvenile or fun, it just comes off as a lot creepier nowadays, as if Tip and Phife are lecturing you from the mic about how sinful being gay is. Considering the producer insisted to leave it off the album as well, it's safe to say we really dodged a bullet with this one.
