10 Things You Didn't Know About The Beatles' Sgt Pepper Album
3. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds Does Not Equal LSD
A popular urban legend is that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Lennon's most successful song from Sgt. Pepper, was inspired by an acid trip because of the subtle presence of LSD in the title.
For those who believe that, I'm afraid I've got some bad news - rather, it was inspired by a friend of Lennon's son, Julian.
Lennon said in several interviews that the song was, in fact, inspired by a drawing Julian did of a classmate of his named Lucy O'Donnell. He didn't even notice the LSD coincidence until after the fact.
Sure, Lennon probably did his fair share of drugs during his lifetime, but there's something adorable about this song's imagery being inspired by nothing more than a pre-schooler's artwork.
