Much like Spotify and music licensing, The Black Keys have never really got on that well with MTV. Things got off on the wrong foot in 2003 when the "music channel" aired their Set You Free video, incorrectly labelled as being by The Black Eyed Peas. An honest mistake, one could argue, and one that they quickly rectified. No big deal, MTV, just don't make the same mistake again... right? Wrong. In 2010, MTV awarded the band a VMA for Breakthrough Video (Tighten Up), except the plaque on the award didn't say The Black Keys. It Said The Black Eyed Peas. The band once again took the situation in their stride, laughing it off and admitting that "MTV is kind of a joke now anyway". Dan and Pat initially wanted to get new awards with the correct band name on it, but decided against it when they found out that they would have to return the original ones to MTV first.
