1. His Acceptance Speech At The 2012 Grammys
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xomnj5_dave-grohl-speech-grammys-2012-foo-fighters-win-best-rock-performance-for-walk_lifestyle During a mammoth night at the 54th annual Grammy awards, Foo Fighters picked up a whopping five gongs, including Best Rock Song for 'Walk', and Best Rock Album for 'Wasting Light'. When collecting the latter award, Grohl spoke about the album's recording process, and how it contrasts hugely to almost everything else in popular music today;
"This is a great honor, because this record was a special record for our band. Rather than go to the best studio in the world down the street in Hollywood and rather than use all of the fanciest computers that money can buy, we made this one in my garage with some microphones and a tape machine. To me this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of music is what's important. Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that's the most important thing for people to do. It's not about being perfect, it's not about sounding absolutely correct, it's not about what goes on in a computer. It's about what goes on in here and what goes on in here ."
Grohl actually ruffled a few feathers with his comments, with criticism coming from the world of electronic music, but those people had greatly missed the point: Grohl was not slandering electronic music, he was slandering electronically altered music, music that has been 'fixed' for its imperfections and human elements. He later wrote online, "I love music. Electronic or acoustic, it doesn't matter to me. The simple act of creating music is a beautiful gift that ALL human beings are blessed with. And the diversity of one musician's personality to the next is what makes music so exciting and...human". Dave Grohl is a man of many talents, but when he's not destroying drum kits, contacting the heavens through a guitar solo or screaming the roof off of a stadium, he is one of the most down to Earth, personable, and relaxed guys on the planet, and quite simply a living legend adored by millions. The best thing? He adores us all, too.
