The story of Suge Knight and Vanilla Ice is one that has become a rap legend, and though there are different versions of events depending on who you ask, the constant throughout all of them is that Knight still got his way in the end.

The story goes that Mario 'Chocolate' Johnson, who was managed by Knight at the time, claimed that he helped Vanilla Ice write his hit song, Ice Ice Baby without receiving any credit or royalties. Suge, being displeased by this injustice, decided to talk it out with Ice and visited the hotel where Ice was staying at the time.

This is where it gets a bit muddled, as the most elaborate version is that Knight took Ice out on to the balcony and dangled him by his ankles, threatening to drop him until he agreed to sign over the royalties to the smash hit. Vanilla Ice has repeatedly disputed this rumour and claimed it's not what went down.

In the 2001 documentary Welcome to Death Row, Ice says, "Suge took me out on the balcony... he had me look over the edge, showing me how high I was up there. I needed to wear a diaper that day."

Regardless of how it actually went down, the outcome is still the same, with Suge Knight convincing Vanilla Ice to hand over 25% of the rights to the record, and once again conveniently getting what he wanted with minimal effort and without any legal disputes.
