10 Totally Unique Locations For Music Concerts

5. Metallica In Antarctica (2013)

On 8th December 2013, thrash metal kings Metallica achieved a very unique accolade in being the first artist to perform in all seven continents. Including the cold one.

The show - dubbed "Freeze 'Em All", a play on their debut album Kill 'Em All - took place at the Carlini Argentine Base in Antarctica, in front a crowd of about 120 very lucky fans and researchers.

To preserve the delicate environment surrounding them and in accordance with the international Antarctic protocol, the band performed without traditional amplification, instead opting for transmitting their sound to the audience via wireless headphones. Basically, imagine the silent disco the comes round every University Fresher's Week and you're there.

While Metallica are not alone in playing the winter wonderland on 'roids, (scientists-turned-indie rockers Nunatak are the other and were the first to do so), they do stand alone in playing all seven continents, as well as playing all of them in less than a year.

Hetfield and his merry metal medley performed an hour-long set of some of the greatest hits, including "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Creeping Death", "Master of Puppet", and "One" but interestingly, decided against playing "Trapped Under Ice".
