10 Totally Unique Locations For Music Concerts

4. Tesseract On An Igloo (2015)

Don't feel like you can warm up yet because we're staying in the ice.

UK ambient djent stalwards TesseracT were invited by Jägermeister to play their recurring Ice Cold Gig in March 2015. The concert took place in Kittila, Lapland, Finland and lasted for roughly an hour, with TesseracT's usual audience of guitar-worshipping, windmilling army replaced with folk of the nearby Sámi tribe.

Temperatures dropped to around -20ºC, meaning members of the band (I imagine mostly those of a stringed instrument persuasion) were given a special heat sack, a small marble-sized bag apparently as hot as a freshly microwaved baked potato, to hold between songs. bassist Amos Williams would add "one of the main challenges is keeping the instruments at the same temperature... ...if the strings become colder during the set then tuning will become a massive issue."

Despite all tribulations and 'what if' scenarios, the performance went off without a hitch and the idilic backdrop suited TesseracT's sound to a tee. Plus drummer Jay Postones used a giant snow mound as a riser which just looks incredible.

The Ice Cold Gig series has played host to many bands playing in ludicrous conditions, including Bullet for My Valentine, The Defiled, and Charlie Simpson.
