10 Underrated Albums By Legendary Rock Music Bands

8. In Your Honor - Foo Fighters

Towards the mid ‘00s, the Foo Fighters were in drastic need of a shakeup. Their last album One By One had nearly killed them because of just how tense the sessions were, and Dave Grohl was looking to find something that was a bit more mellow to tap into for the band’s next record. So how do you blend mellow and stadium rock under one roof? You do them both at the same time.

Being the first double record that the Foos had ever undertaken, In Your Honor feels like two distinct albums that were just crammed together. On the first side, you get some of the most hard edged rock and roll that the band has ever made, giving us stadium choruses like Best Of You and having the feel of arena rock from start to finish. Once you turn on the second disc though, this is probably the most vulnerable that Dave has ever been on a record, dominated by acoustic guitars half the time and bringing in different orchestration like strings and even guest stars like Norah Jones to add a bit of a different flavor to the back half of the record.

This also might be one of the sharpest albums that Dave has ever made from a lyrical point of view, having enough separation to tackle the loss of Kurt Cobain on Friend of a Friend or embracing becoming a father for the first time on Miracle. The Foos might have shed a bit of their alternative skin when making this album, but no one can touch once you start laying your real emotions out on the table.
