10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '80s

6. Youth Gone Wild - Skid Row

Any hair band hoping to make a name for themselves didn't have a prayer unless they were from California. Even bands like Poison were born in Pennsylvania and then moved to LA to make it when they were ready. So when you come from the mean streets of New Jersey, what kind of shot do you have?

With the exception of Bon Jovi, no one was really seeing Jersey as a cultural hub for hair metal, but Skid Row came out all guns blazing with Youth Gone Wild. After finally finding a singer in Sebastian Bach, the band turned in one of the heaviest offerings of what could be considered hair metal, with a chorus that had more muscle than most of their Californian counterparts could have hoped for. By the time you get to the band chanting It's Just Skid Row, you know that they had the world in their hands, ready to conquer any other metal act that stood in their way.

Even after the band's blockbuster debut, they ended up doubling down with Slave to the Grind, which saw them go down a darker road after touring with Pantera. Skid Row may be looked at as a glossy band at the tail end of hair metal, but once you hear this song once, you'll have the scars to remember it.
