10 Upcoming Heavy Metal Albums That Have Us Excited
3. The Metallica Blacklist
Date: September 10th
Every metal fan over the past 30 years has tended to have an opinion when it comes to Metallica's almighty Black Album. Though there are still people who herald this as Metallica abandoning their thrash roots and selling out for the hell of it, there are thousands of kids who wouldn't know what metal was if not for this record paving the way. Now with its 30th anniversary upon us, it's time for all of those grown up kids to pay their due respects.
It's almost strange calling this a metal release though. Sure, all of these songs are from the metal genre at the end of the day, but it gets that much stranger when you see non-metal artists covering the stuff. Even though you have some weird moments like Weezer covering Enter Sandman, a lot of people who you wouldn't necessarily place with Metallica are doing a great job, from Miley Cyrus nailing Nothing Else Matters to Idles completely reinventing The God That Failed.
That's just scratching the surface though, with everyone from Jason Isbell to Kamasi Washington to Royal Blood trying their hand at some of the most classic metal tunes of all time. For Metallica themselves, this might be considered a victory lap, but for the metalhead in all of us, this is proof why we loved these songs so much back in the day.
