10 Weirdest Rock Songs Ever Made

6. Satisfaction - Devo

Most casual fans of rock and roll probably don't need to be introduced to the song Satisfaction. In just a few short minutes, the Rolling Stones managed to distill every single ounce of their blues soaked swagger into one track, complete with a guitar line that became one of rock and roll's first classic riffs. So naturally this song should be remade...by what looks like androids pretending to be rockstars.

As the new wave scene started to turn a corner, Devo's first step up to the plate with their debut album included Satisfaction in its lineup, where it is virtually unrecognizable from the original. Taking a bit of influence from fellow art rockers Talking Heads, the delivery of Mark Mothersbaugh feels oddly mechanical, almost like he's transcribing every single lyric out in code, as all of the swagger is sucked dry.

That's not to say it's that bad a song though. For what it is, this kind of dismantling of rock's foundations became the core of Devo's ethos; that being tearing down the old to make way for something entirely different to shine through. Like it or not, this song was just proof that rock and roll wasn't going to rest on its laurels for that much longer. The Love Generation had its time...its now time to rebuild.
