10 Worst Album Covers In Rock
8. Reality - David Bowie
Of all the giants of the golden age of rock and roll, David Bowie may have been the most artistic of them all. Rather than just squeak by with a style of music that he knew worked, the Thin White Duke took pride in throwing caution to the wind, going down the musical rabbit hole on almost each subsequent album. Though his relevancy started to wane after the '90s, Reality announced that the Starman was back...with the exception of the cover.
Make no mistake, Reality is probably one of the greatest late-era Bowie albums there is, as he gets back in touch with some of the more glam-centric production tricks he helped pioneer back in the '70s. As far as the album cover goes though, this is probably the most ill-advised Bowie has ever looked, with a drawing that feels like it's trying to be some sort of cartoon character.
Though there's nothing wrong with the actual construction of the design per se, there was absolutely no one asking for Ziggy Stardust himself to actually have his own anime looking character. In retrospect, it's probably a good thing that people didn't bring up the cover. I mean, could you imagine having this guy take on a life of his own, with a show on Cartoon Network? Aside from the amazing music, this is not the kind of reality that anyone really wants to be a part of.
