10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The 1970s
5. Cheesecake - Aerosmith
Worst Offender: "Cheesecake, her sugar gets me high....Cheesecake, Got my fingers in her pie."
The end of the '70s show Aerosmith in a really dark time in their career. When the band were getting ready to release their next album Night in the Ruts, guitarist Joe Perry quit in the middle of the tour, refusing to work with Steven Tyler again. With nearly half an album still left to do, "Cheesecake" really shows one of the more confusing metaphors to come from Tyler's pen.
Like any good Aerosmith song, most of this track has to do with sex, but the actual comparisons don't seem to make too much sense. The song already starts off like the band is grasping at straws, with Tyler referencing their previous hit "Back in the Saddle," but the innuendos get a little weird when he starts comparing his lover to dessert. While this kind of metaphor has worked in the past (i.e. "Custard Pie"), pairing something like this with Aerosmith's care-free attitude makes it seem like a teenager who thinks they've made art talking about the pleasures of Cheesecake.
It's not like Aerosmith songs are trying to be too thoughful, with Tyler even admitting he would string together some words for phonetic purposes, but this is definitely a stretch coming for one of hard rock's most successful acts. That Aerosmith shine is still here, but the lyrics on this track show that magic starting to fade slightly.
