10 WORST Metallica Songs Ever
8. End Of The Line - Death Magnetic
After years of toying with their sound with every release, Death Magnetic was the Metallica album many fans needed. Though the songs may not have hit as hard as the band's classic records, it was nice to hear them going back to what made them such a big deal in the first place. However, that didn't mean that every track was flawless.
As a whole, Death Magnetic's production is too overdone for its own good, with each song being stretched out into 7 or 8 minutes like the band's classic riff marathons. Though there are some standouts that work like "The Day That Never Comes," the second track "The End of the Line" is the one track that is least deserving of that grandiose treatment. While the actual riff is pretty good for what it is, it really starts to lose its luster after it starts pushing over 6 minutes.
The song also bears a curious similarity to the bass line in Pearl Jam's "Why Go," but even the transplants from Seattle knew to restrain the song to around 3 minutes instead of milking it for all its worth. It's rarely a bad thing to have a good thrashy Metallica song, but this tune tries to pull off grandiose and ends up sounding lethargic instead.
