10 Worst Number One Rock Albums Of The 1980s

1. OU812 - Van Halen

The name of Van Halen's eighth studio album from 1988 is supposed to be read as "Oh, you ate one too". That's dreadful enough to get it onto this list on its own.

This was the second Van Halen record since Sammy Hagar came in to replace David Lee Roth, so this new layout were continuing to find their own sound. Sadly, OU812 (still a bad name) was a major step down from Hagar's first involvement with the band, 1986's 5150.

Seriously, what is it with all these numbers?

That album had character, pizzazz, and, most importantly, a big memorable hit in Why Can't This Be Love? This one had none of those things, the closest being the instantly-forgettable When It's Love.

Even Eddie Van Halen wasn't massive on this record, claiming in an interview many years later that its mixing made it sound like poo. Only he didn't say poo.

Van Halen were on their way down as soon as Roth left, and it could be argued that OU812 was the first time that became apparent.

Then again, it was number one for four weeks, so who cares?
