10 Worst Songs On Classic Albums
3. Kid A - Radiohead
You'd be hardpressed to find almost any reviewer on the Internet who hasn't said their piece on Radiohead's Kid A. Being one of the first masterpieces of the 21st century, this record launched us into the digital age, as the masterminds behind OK Computer started to embrace their electronic and experimental tendencies. However, time can sometimes be cruel to the classics.
As the years have gone on, the sounds of the title track start to sound more and more dated with each passing listen. While something like Everything In Its Right Place and Idioteque still sound fresh all these years later, the actual construction of this song is what landed it at this spot. Instead of the usual songwriting methods, most of Thom Yorke's vocal passages are fed through an array of effects, making him sound like a disjointed cyborg rather than himself.
It makes sense too, considering that Kid A is supposed to be the name for what the first human clone would sound like. At the same time, the way that Thom actually sounds now feels more akin to the business end of a drive thru speaker than an actual intimidating presence. Maybe we've matured past this kind of cheeky effect nowadays, but the actual strength behind this experiment has definitely lost its luster since the year 2000.
