8. Oasis - Half The World Away
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK_Mrpjppwk Britpop's mega-stars Oasis have had an impressive collection of successful B-sides, but one of the most well-known and acclaimed is 1994's 'Half The World Away', which was originally released as the B-side to 'Whatever'. The song would be featured on two Oasis compilations; The Masterplan and Stop The Clocks, both of which would reach number 2 in the UK in 1998 and 2006 respectively. The laid back, acoustic led hit would be chosen as the theme tune to the popular BBC sitcom The Royle Family where it would go on to gain massive public exposure. With its summer's day sound and Noel Gallagher's escapist lyrics, the song has become a popular song in its own right and become a favourite of indie and britpop fans.
