12 Best Hamilton Songs

10. One Last Time

The tears keep coming with One Last Time, where we say farewell to George Washington.

What starts off as quite humourous song with Hamilton confused and in denial over Washington's decision to step down as President, gives way to an emotional, gospel like, melody.

As the countries' first ever President, Washington is viewed as a 'Father of the Nation', and throughout the musical Hamilton looks up to him as the father he never had, which is what makes his final song, so heartbreaking.

The inspiration behind One Last Time comes from will.i.am's Yes I Can, the lyrics of which all come from Barack Obama's campaign speech. Miranda directly integrated Washington's Farewell Address into One Last Time, once again showing off his skill at writing compelling songs packed full of historical facts.

Add in the amazing vocals of Washington's original Broadway actor, Christopher Jackson, One Last Time may not be as flashy as some other songs on the soundtrack, but it is certainly one of the best.

It is also a favourite of President Obama, who even recorded a remix of the song with Miranda and Jackson in 2018.
